SETTINGS & WORLDS
bohemian scene
Films embedded in the social world of artists, musicians, writers, and creative drifters — where the texture of bohemian life itself is the primary subject: shared apartments, broke ambition, scene politics, creative community rituals, and the particular mix of camaraderie and competition that defines alternative subcultures. The register is defined by immersion in a recognizable creative milieu and its codes, not merely by a protagonist who happens to be an artist. Distinct from urban-alienation (which centers the city as an isolating, anonymous force) by requiring a felt community and subculture — however dysfunctional — rather than solitary disconnection; distinct from nightlife-underworld (which is about criminal or transgressive social worlds after dark) by centering creative identity and artistic aspiration as the social glue, not danger or illegality.
