Starting as an ambitious young man in Wyoming, he edges closer through Nixon's White House and the Ford administration, mentored by Donald Rumsfeld (Steve Carell). McKay cuts between scenes with the snap of a tabloid, then pulls back to show Cheney in a dark suit, alone in an ordinary room, the weight of the world already settled on his shoulders.
