A magical spell tears the Smurfs from their forest village and drops them into present-day Manhattan. Patrick Winslow (Neil Patrick Harris) and his wife Grace (Jayma Mays) find the tiny blue creatures in their apartment and agree to help Papa Smurf (Jonathan Winters) find a way home before the sorcerer Gargamel (Hank Azaria) hunts them down. The film turns on the bond that forms between the lost Smurfs and their human protectors.
