Miguel (Kenneth Branagh) and Tulio (Kevin Kline) are con artists who win a map to El Dorado in Spain, then wash ashore in the New World. The city they find mistakes them for gods, and they navigate its temples while a high priest (Armand Assante) schemes to exploit that power. What neither expected was Chel (Rosie Perez), who sees through their act and becomes the reason they might choose to stay.
