Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock), a sharp-tongued book editor facing deportation, pressures her assistant Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) into a fake engagement to stay in the country. Andrew agrees on one condition: Margaret must meet his family in Alaska and convince them the relationship is real.
