“Who, in the name of God, is getting away with murder?”

A Benedictine monastery erupts in inexplicable deaths, each victim left with stained fingers and a look of terror. William of Baskerville (Sean Connery), a Franciscan friar with a gift for reading clues others miss, arrives with his young novice Adso of Melk (Christian Slater) to uncover the pattern. As the murders continue and the Inquisitor Bernardo Gui closes in, William must solve the abbey's secrets before the knowledge itself becomes heresy.
