Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) lives as a video game designer in San Francisco, haunted by dreams of a woman he once knew. He wants to understand why Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) feels so real to him, so vital, when she shouldn't exist at all. Lana Wachowski builds the film around the pull between two people trying to recognize each other across a distance that might be death, or might be the barrier between the real world and the machine.
