The Master

After the Second World War ends, Freddie Quell (Joaquin Phoenix) drifts through America unmoored, drinking whatever he can find. He meets Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman), a charismatic man building a movement called The Cause, and is drawn into the fold. Freddie follows Dodd across the country, chasing belonging in a faith he doesn't quite understand, until the pull between what Dodd offers and what Freddie needs begins to fracture him.
