The Last Samurai

Nathan Algren (Tom Cruise) is a former American cavalry officer hired to crush a samurai rebellion in 1870s Japan. He's captured by Moritsugu Katsumoto (Ken Watanabe), the rebel leader fighting to preserve a way of life the modern world is erasing, and begins to see honor in the samurai code. Zwick follows what grows between Algren and Katsumoto, caught between the soldier's old loyalty and a new one.
