Los Angeles, present day: Britt Reid (Seth Rogen), heir to a newspaper empire, inherits his fortune when his father dies unexpectedly. Restless and directionless, he bonds with Kato (Jay Chou), the mechanic in his garage who fights like a dancer and builds cars like weapons. Together they decide to take down crime. Gondry builds the action in bright, propulsive bursts, each fight and chase shot to feel like a joyride.
