The Day the Earth Stood Still
“We thought the Earth was ours. We were wrong.”
A massive sphere descends over New York City, and within hours the military surrounds it. Klaatu (Keanu Reeves), an alien emissary, emerges with a cryptic message: humanity must change or face extinction. Derrickson films the arrival and its aftermath as a slow-building catastrophe, all geometric precision and gathering dread, the camera holding steady while the world tilts toward annihilation.
