Eight years after Batman vanishes, a masked mercenary named Bane (Tom Hardy) emerges in Gotham with a plan to destroy the city from within. Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) is pulled from exile to face an enemy he cannot defeat alone, relying on a cunning thief in Selina (Anne Hathaway) and a young cop named Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). What matters most, in the end, is not whether Batman survives, but who stands beside him when he chooses to.
