Virgil Oldman (Geoffrey Rush) is an art auctioneer in a decaying Italian palazzo, cataloguing treasures for the wealthy. He meets Claire Ibbetson (Sylvia Hoeks), an heiress trapped in her family mansion by agoraphobia, and begins acquiring paintings for her invisible collection. As Virgil grows closer to the woman he has never quite seen, what he stands to lose becomes clearer than what he has ever owned.
