Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson), a former government operative, wakes to find his ex-wife murdered in his apartment and himself the prime suspect. Inspector Frank Dotzler (Forest Whitaker) pursues him through Los Angeles while Mills, using the same tactics that kept him alive in the field, hunts the real killer. What Mills learns is that the skills that protect you in one life can trap you in another.
