Tony Montana (Al Pacino) arrives in Miami as a refugee from Cuba with nothing but hunger and willingness to do the work others won't. He claws his way up from street-level dealer to kingpin, moving faster than anyone else. De Palma shoots his rise in neon and machine-gun bursts, but the higher Montana climbs, the more isolated he becomes, until he learns too late that power built on violence and betrayal leaves a man with no one to trust.
