Robin Longstride (Russell Crowe), an archer in the Crusades, returns to England after King Richard's death to find the throne seized by a tyrant and the poor taxed into starvation. He takes up the outlaw's bow to strike back at the corrupt nobility and rally the people to resist. Scott stages the forest battles and siege warfare with a tactile weight, the mud and blood and smoke making each clash feel like it costs the earth.
