A goldfish with a human face named Ponyo (voice: Yuria Kozuki) escapes from her father's underwater kingdom and wants to become human. She washes ashore near Sosuke (voice: Hiroki Doi), a five-year-old boy who feeds her and names her, and she grows attached to him with the fierce devotion of a creature newly aware of love. Miyazaki builds a world where the bond between them matters more than the magic that made it possible.
