“Forget about love.”

A wounded woman named Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) wakes in a stranger's apartment after collapsing in an alley. Seligman (Stellan Skarsgård) listens as she recounts her life since adolescence, a catalog of sexual encounters and the men who have moved through it. Von Trier builds the film in long, intimate sequences, and what Joe reveals about her body and hunger becomes the weight she carries forward, each confession another thing she cannot unsay.
