It's summer on Long Island, where Maddie Barker (Jennifer Lawrence), broke and facing eviction, takes a strange job from Allison Becker (Laura Benanti) and her husband. They want her to date their introverted son Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman) before he leaves for college, to ease him into the world. What begins as a transaction between strangers becomes genuine affection between two people who thought they had nothing in common.
