A woman (Jennifer Lawrence) tends to her remote house and her poet husband (Javier Bardem) with quiet devotion. When strangers arrive at their door, the husband welcomes them in despite his wife's unease, and what unfolds grows darker and more violent with each new arrival. Hospitality, once offered, becomes its own kind of trap.
