Modern Times
“He stands alone as the greatest entertainer of modern times! No one on earth can make you laugh as heartily or touch your heart as deeply...the whole world laughs, cries and thrills to his priceless genius!”
A factory worker (Charlie Chaplin) tightens bolts on an assembly line until the machinery grinds him up and spits him back out. He drifts through department stores and jail cells, chased by cops and hunger, until he meets a gamin (Paulette Goddard) just as broke. Chaplin's film moves between slapstick and genuine hardship, finding comedy in the collision of one man's body against the speed and scale of modern life.
