Melancholia

Justine (Kirsten Dunst) is a bride on her wedding day, but her depression is already pulling her under. Her sister Claire (Charlotte Gainsbourg) watches as Justine spirals, and then astronomers announce a rogue planet is on a collision course with Earth. Von Trier splits the film into two halves, each one a deep descent, shot through with visual precision that makes catastrophe and intimacy feel like the same thing.
