Annabel (Jessica Chastain) is a musician with no patience for children until her boyfriend Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) brings home his two young nieces, found starving in a cabin after five years alone. The girls seem to answer to a presence in the dark corners of the house. Annabel learns to feed them, to say their names, to stand between them and whatever has kept them alive, and discovers that love costs her everything.
