A plane crash strands four New York zoo animals on the African savanna, and Alex the lion (voice: Ben Stiller) finds himself face to face with his own parents for the first time since he was a cub. His father, Zuba (voice: Alec Baldwin), is a battle-scarred lion who leads the pride and expects his son to fight like one. Alex must choose between the life he built with his friends and the family waiting for him in Africa.
