Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson) moves through the Australian wasteland alone, his car and his reflexes all he has left. He drifts into a settlement under siege by marauders, and the settlers offer him fuel if he'll help them escape. What begins as a transaction hardens into commitment as Max learns their route out requires crossing open desert where speed and violence are the only currencies that matter.
