Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) is a cop running on rage and caffeine, reckless enough that his partner Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) keeps one hand on the dashboard. They catch a case that leads them into the orbit of a South African diplomat with diplomatic immunity and a taste for murder. By the end, Riggs stands alone in a wrecked room, blood on his shirt, the weight of what he's done settling in his bones.
