Arthur Fleck is a party clown and failed comedian in a decaying Gotham City, struggling through days of humiliation and invisibility. He lives with his mother Penny Fleck (Frances Conroy) and chases a spot on the talk show hosted by Murray Franklin (Robert De Niro). As his grip on reason loosens, the only connection Arthur makes is with Sophie Dumond (Zazie Beetz), a neighbor who sees him when no one else does.
