Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) refuses to hand over his Iron Man suit to the government, even as the arc reactor in his chest poisons him from the inside. A vengeful industrialist and a mysterious S.H.I.E.L.D. operative close in while his best friend Rhodey (Don Cheadle) and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) watch him spiral. What matters most becomes clear only when he has to choose between the suit and the people he needs.
