Pete Wagner (Mark Wahlberg) and his wife Ellie (Rose Byrne) decide to adopt and bring home three siblings, including the guarded teenager Lizzy (Isabela Merced). They quickly discover that paperwork and preparation mean nothing against the actual work of becoming a family. What Pete and Ellie thought would be straightforward turns out to require them to show up differently than they ever have before.
