Vikings on the island of Berk hunt dragons as a matter of survival, but Hiccup (Mason Thames), the scrawny son of their leader Stoick (Gerard Butler), would rather understand them. When he captures a rare dragon instead of slaying it, he discovers these animals can be trained and befriended. Dean DeBlois follows Hiccup as he learns to bond with his dragon, light catching the scales as boy and beast fly together.
