Finch (Tom Hanks) has survived alone on a scorched Earth for a decade, sheltering in a garage with his dog, when he begins building a robot named Jeff (Caleb Landry Jones) to learn what he knows. Finch is dying, and he wants the machine to understand how to care for the creature that has kept him alive through the worst years. What endures is not what we leave behind, but what we teach another being to value.
