Las Vegas in 1971: a journalist and his lawyer arrive with a trunk full of drugs and a vague assignment. Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) and Dr. Gonzo (Benicio del Toro) abandon it almost immediately, chasing a drug-fueled vision of the American Dream through casino floors and hotel hallways. The city itself becomes the real assignment, and the longer they stay, the harder it gets to leave or even remember why they came.
