Ash (Bruce Campbell) arrives at an isolated cabin in the woods for what should be a quiet getaway. He finds an audio recording of passages from an ancient book, and when he plays it back, demons pour out and begin tormenting him with possession and supernatural violence. Raimi treats the terror and the slapstick with equal commitment, suggesting that sometimes survival means accepting that the world runs on chaos, not logic.
