Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

“You can erase someone from your mind. Getting them out of your heart is another story.”

Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) discovers that his ex-girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has erased him from her memory using an experimental procedure. He decides to do the same, hiring a company to surgically remove every trace of her from his mind. As the erasure begins, Joel realizes he doesn't want to forget her at all. Gondry builds the film inside Joel's fragmenting memory, the locations warping and collapsing as if the past itself were being unmade.
