Gru is recruited by a secret spy agency to go undercover at a shopping mall and catch a dangerous criminal. His new partner Lucy (Kristen Wiig) pushes him into the social world he's spent years avoiding, while his three adopted daughters watch. As Gru closes in on the culprit Eduardo, known as El Macho (Benjamin Bratt), he discovers that stopping the villain means risking the family he's only just learned to love.
