In Manhattan's wealthy prep-school world, Kathryn Merteuil (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her stepbrother Sébastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) turn seduction into sport. Kathryn dares Sébastian to seduce the virginal Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon), and he accepts with the confidence of someone who has never failed.
