“One taste is all it takes.”

Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche) arrives in a conservative French village at the start of Lent and opens a chocolaterie, despite the town's strict traditions. Her chocolate draws out hidden longings in women like Armande Voizin (Judi Dench) and Josephine Muscat (Lena Olin). By the time Vianne realizes what she has started, the choice between staying and leaving has already cost her the person she came to protect.
