Karen Barclay (Catherine Hicks) buys her young son Andy a doll at a street fair in Chicago, still in its box. She doesn't know the doll carries the soul of Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif), a serial killer shot dead by a cop and bleeding out in a toy store. As Andy opens the box, people around the boy start to die in ways that look like accidents, and the doll's plastic face catches the light with malice.
