A small Southern town becomes a prison when Max Cady (Robert De Niro), freshly released from fourteen years in prison, arrives at the home of Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte), the lawyer who buried evidence that might have freed him. Sam's family is trapped inside as Cady circles closer each day. By the end Sam and Cady have become mirrors of each other, bound by a violence that neither can escape.
