George Jung (Johnny Depp) grows up in a Massachusetts mill town where his father Fred (Ray Liotta) sells insurance and dreams go to die. In the 1970s, he moves to Los Angeles and discovers cocaine, then discovers he can move it across the country faster than anyone else. Ted Demme watches a small-town kid become a trafficker worth millions, then watches the weight of that money flatten him into nothing.
