Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is a street-smart Detroit detective who follows a lead to Beverly Hills after his best friend is murdered. He pairs up with Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Sgt. Taggart (John Ashton), who have no idea what hit them when this outsider starts shaking their world apart. Brest lets the chaos work as comedy, and what emerges is that sometimes the person who doesn't belong is exactly who the job needs.
