A rock star is found stabbed to death in San Francisco, and Detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas) suspects Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone), a wealthy novelist whose crime fiction reads like a blueprint for murder. Nick begins an affair with her anyway, each encounter deepening his certainty and his doubt.
