Elizabeth Halsey (Cameron Diaz) is a middle school teacher who despises her job, her students, and everyone around her until her wealthy fiancé dumps her. Broke and furious, she returns to the classroom with a new plan: seduce the rich substitute teacher Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake) and marry her way out. What she does not expect is Russell Gettis (Jason Segel), a fellow teacher who sees past her contempt and actually likes her.
