A rifle shot in Morocco wounds an American tourist, and the accident spirals across four countries. Richard Jones (Brad Pitt) is trapped in a village without medical help while his wife Susan (Cate Blanchett) waits in a hotel room, unraveling. Iñárritu cuts between a deaf girl in Tokyo, a nanny in Mexico, and the people caught in the widening wake of that single moment, each of them reaching for connection they cannot find.
