Adam Lerner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a twenty-seven-year-old radio producer until doctors tell him he has spinal cancer with a fifty-fifty survival rate. His best friend Kyle (Seth Rogen) moves in to help while Adam meets his therapist Katherine (Anna Kendrick) and watches his mother unravel with worry. Levine follows Adam through chemotherapy and the relationships that fray and hold as the disease strips away the distances between them.
