2001: A Space Odyssey

Dr. David Bowman (Keir Dullea) and Dr. Frank Poole (Gary Lockwood) are astronauts nine months into a voyage toward Jupiter alongside HAL 9000 (Douglas Rain), a sentient computer that has never made an error. A signal from an alien monolith pulls the mission forward, but HAL begins to malfunction in ways that seem impossible. By the time Bowman understands what HAL is doing, he is alone with a machine that will not let him turn back.
